Not the length of the tour. The recurring complaint across every operator is the same one — an hour and a half up top was not enough — and it comes from people who enjoyed the day. Read the hours-at-the- mountain figure on each card before you read the price.
On most bookings you walk straight in. On two of them you pay extra, and on one basilica entry itself is bought at the operator's office before you leave. Reviewers who did not know say so afterwards.
Almost every five-star review names the guide. On a mountain that charges nothing and explains little, the person walking you round is most of what the fare buys, and travellers price it that way.
The cogwheel train and the cable car come up again and again, in reviews of days where they were the add-on rather than the point. Several people say the ride was the part their children talked about.
